Overview

All active lifesavers are required to complete an annual skills maintenance (proficiency check) to demonstrate competency in the lifesaving award/s they hold and in which they wish to remain current. This circular outlines the skills maintenance requirements for the 2024-25 season.

It is important to note that this Surf Life Saving Tasmania circular outlines ALL our state requirements. Members should not reference the SLSA circular provided nationally as this only provided the minimum standard.

Requirments and Information

The skills maintenance circular provides an overview of the seasons requirments and information. This is the key document to refer to.

SLSA Assessing App

The Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) Assessing app has been created for Surf Life Saving Australia Assessors, Endorsed Delegates and administrators to perform assessment activities on their mobile or tablet device. Assessors can record assessment results within the Assessing app and data is updated directly to the SLS member’s record in Surfguard and their eLearning account in the etrainu Learning Management System (LMS).

Re-Joining Members

Surf Life Saving is Australia’s peak water safety and rescue organisation. If you are non-proficient in any award for a period of time (more than one season), then you are required to complete skills maintenance requirements as identified through a training gap analysis to determine what changes have occurred in the award since you were last proficient.

If the gap analysis determines that there is a gap in skill and/or knowledge, you will be required to undertake some training and assessment in the gap(s) identified.

For example, you may have obtained a Bronze Medallion when the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was not taught in the Bronze Medallion. Or you may have completed your Advanced Resuscitation Techniques award before OP Airways, Pulse Oximeters or Wound trainers were introduced to the award.

Refer to the latest SLST Skills Maintenance Circular for more information.
