The Community Surf Life Saving Certificate (also previously known as ASIDE) is a challenging award, which provides teachers, surf instructors and other outdoor recreation members the knowledge and skills to be able to supervise people in a dynamic open water environment.

This award is the minimum qualification for those who wish to participate in beach/water activities adhering to the Tasmanian DoE Guidelines.

The practical and theoretical sections of the award will equip candidates with the skills to supervise structured recreational activities at aquatic venues/ environments. The course focus includes student safety, surf awareness, rescue techniques, carries/ supports and CPR.  

Successful completion of this course will result in the award of:

  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • PUASAR013 Participate in an aquatic rescue operation
  • PUASAR012 Apply surf awareness and self-rescue skills
