Surf Life Saving Tasmania (SLST) in partnership with Variety – the Children’s Charity Tasmania is proud to announce that four areas across Tasmania this Summer will be running Starfish Nippers programs.
SLST’s programs, such as Starfish Nippers, aims to increase social inclusion and participation levels in beach activities for children (from ages 5) and young people with an intellectual impairment, physical disability and/ additional needs who find themselves capable but challenged by the requirements of mainstream junior Surf Life Saving programs. Recently, increased accessibility to purpose-built facilities and beach access wheelchairs has seen more Tasmanians participate in aquatic activities.
This Summer, Surf Life Saving Tasmania will be running 4 taster sessions at Sandy Bay for families to give Starfish nippers a try and then clubs around the state will be running their own sessions which families are encouraged to sign up to. Starfish nippers will be this year opened up to siblings of starfish nippers so the whole family can get involved!
Live in the Hobart area? We recommend attending our Sandy bay taster sessions first before signing on to our southern regional club sessions.
