Coming to Schools in Term 4 2024

Beach to Bush (Grades 1 & 2)

Australia’s most popular primary aged surf education program returns for another year! Reaching over 6,000 Tasmanian students in Grades 1 and 2, our lifeguards are ready to deliver another exciting program of surf safety with you and your school.

Beach to Bush is the most impactful educational initiative of Surf Life Saving and has been delivered to schools for over 25 years. The program consists of a FREE 1 hour aquatic safety presentation delivered by lifeguards around the state. It aims to educate young people about safety at the beach and in other aquatic environments - pools, rivers, dams and lakes.

What does it cover?

  • General beach safety messages.
  • Identifying hazards and dangers
  • Sun safety.
  • Rips and waves.
  • Calling emergency services.
  • Rescues and getting help.
  • Safety in other aquatic environments.

PLUS! Students will be given Beach to Bush activity sheets to reinforce safety messages and share with their families.

With a major emphasis on water safety, the program teaches and empowers students to use lifesaving skills. Many of whom may be experiencing surf life saving for the first time.

Ready, Set, Rescue! is supported by the Tasmanian Department of Education Swimming and Water Safety Program and is currently available to all primary schools across Tasmania as part of the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Sporting Schools Program.

This summer, your school and students are invited to participate in a ‘beach experience’ whilst trying their hand in a variety of surf life saving skills and activities, such as:
