Surf Life Saving Tasmania is committed to providing water safety messages that target vulnerable members of the population. SLST encourages all members of the public to use Tasmanian waterways, however we recognise that young people are high risk takers. Programs created for secondary students aim to combat their risk taking behaviour, enabling participants to identify hazards and make informed decisions at beaches and inland waterways.

Surf Survival

This program is designed to blend classroom and beach experiences to create safe water users. The aim of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge of basic surf awareness to be able to safely enjoy surf based aquatic activities.

The course provides an understanding of the surf environment and an introduction to self survival techniques, rescues techniques and First Aid. Surf Survival is a stepping stone to the Surf Rescue Certificate, which is a Surf Life Saving award which allows a member to patrol their local area and be an active member in their community.
