Protecting our coastlines

Our clubs, units, volunteers and staff are at the heart of lifesaving in Tasmania. Each season, volunteer members patrol beaches and waterways across the state, providing a visible safety presence, offering advice, preventing incidents and responding when people need help.

SLST also coordinates additional support services and emergency response capability to assist clubs and units, major events, emergency services and communities when required.

Support services

Surf Life Saving Tasmania coordinates additional support services that strengthen lifesaving capability across the state. These services include:

  • Specialist equipment and vessels

  • Water safety support for events and activities

  • Duty Officer support and operational coordination

These support services help support clubs during busy periods, major events, higher-risk activities and incidents.

Support services provide an extra layer of capability to assist local agencies, helping ensure effective and coordinated coverage when and where it is needed.

Patrols

Volunteer patrols are the core lifesaving service provided by Surf Life Saving Clubs across Tasmania. Patrols are focused on prevention, helping people make safer decisions before an incident occurs. During the patrol season, lifesavers:

  • Set up flagged swimming areas

  • Monitor beach and water conditions

  • Provide safety advice

  • Deliver first aid

  • Respond to incidents
