Carlton Park Surf Life Saving Club’s Jamie Stubbs and Michael Moschogianis have been named Surf Sports Team of the Year at the 2026 Surf Life Saving Tasmania Awards of Excellence. The award recognises an outstanding season that saw the pair dominate on the Tasmanian stage before stepping up against Australia’s best.

The duo enjoyed a strong domestic season in Tasmania before taking on the national stage at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships in Kirra, Queensland, where they lined up against some of the sport’s most experienced and decorated competitors.

For Moschogianis, competing alongside some of the athletes they have long looked up to made their success even more special.

"I guess for a couple of old fellas like us to have a really good domestic season here in Tassie, but then also to step up on the national stage and race some of our idols and legends of the sport, especially in big conditions, it still blows our mind that we had such a great Aussies and came away with a gold medal," he said.

While Tasmania can present different training conditions to the warmer states, Stubbs believes that being based in the state can also provide its own advantages.

"There's a few disadvantages being in Tassie, but I feel like there's almost some advantages as well," Stubbs said.

"We're sort of away from the spotlight, and we go up to the Australian titles probably believing that we can do it. We just went in with that mindset and were confident that we could match it with anyone."

That confidence paid off, with the pair putting together a memorable campaign at the Australian Championships and proving that Tasmanian athletes can compete with the best in the country.

Their success also reflects the strength of the Carlton Park Masters program, with the group playing an important role in the club's wider culture and development.

"It drives the whole culture of our club, our Masters group. I guess we inspire and drive those young kids, and we drive each other," Moschogianis said.

"We're right up there in the point score at the Aussies, and it's not just about mateship. It's about producing rescue-ready lifesavers. We're all still patrolling, we're all still driving our club forward, but we also love to race, and we love to race hard too."

For Stubbs and Moschogianis, the Surf Sports Team of the Year award is recognition not only of their results, but of the commitment, camaraderie and competitive spirit that continues to drive Carlton Park's Masters athletes.

The win has also secured the pair a nomination for Surf Sports Team of the Year at the 2026 Surf Life Saving Australia Awards of Excellence.
