Carlton Park SLSC Dominate 2026 SLST Masters Championships as Clifton Beach SLSC Narrowly Win 2026 SLST Junior State Championships

Thursday 05 March 2026

Over the last two weekends, the top junior and masters surf lifesavers competed at respective State Championships events across the state.

Carlton Park Surf Life Saving Club defended their title for the fifth year in a row, winning the overall point score at the 2026 Tasmanian Masters Championships on Saturday 21 February.

The club finished with a whopping 683 points, with Clifton Beach SLSC in second place on 247 points followed by Ulverstone SLSC on 78 points.

The Carlton Park SLSC contingent featured a variety of surf sport legends including Don Marsh, Anna Sargent, Jamie Stubbs, Michael Moschogianis and Jayde Richardson.

“It was a fun day with a mid-size wave testing all us competitors,” said Marsh.

“The strong Carlton Park team had competitors across all age categories which helped with a convincing points win.”

Marsh was among the top competitors in the 60+ age category. He was on top of the podium for the Men’s Iron, Board and Surf races.

Jayde Richardson (30-39) and Anna Sargent (50-59) led from the front with dominant wins across events in their age categories, including the Female Iron, Board and Surf race.

Clifton Beach SLSC’s Warwick Lovell was a frontrunner in the Men’s 40-49 events, taking out victories in the Board Junior, Single Ski, Surf and Iron races.

Ulverstone, Bicheno and Burnie provided strong competition in the many team events across the day.

On 28 February to 1 March, Clifton Beach SLSC narrowly denied Burnie SLSC back-to-back club championships by winning the Junior State Championships with 455 points, only five points more than Burnie.

With more than 300 junior athletes competing, five clubs scored over 200 points in the club championships, which SLST Surf Sports State Advisor Luke O’Garey said is reassuring for the pathways progress of surf sports across the state.

“It’s definitely a great outlook on the future of how we’re going. We used to see 1-2 clubs dominate at this level, so it’s great to see more clubs pushing the bar.

“It’s a credit to the clubs and the amazing programs they now have in place. All members are also getting more access to higher quality coaching with Tassie coaches leaning on each other more. It’s helping clubs and we’re seeing the results of this,” O’Garey said.

There were plenty of great standout performances across the weekend. Burnie SLSC’s Kirra Lambie made an impact in the women’s U12 events, winning the Surf, Ironperson, Board races and the 1km Beach Run.

In her final year as a Nipper, Burnie SLSC’s Lily O’Garey took out the U14 women’s Board race and Ironperson event.

In the U14 men’s events, it was Finn Pilkington (Clifton Beach), Mac Spicer (Penguin) and Stuart Innes (Bridport) battling it out for podiums, making for exciting viewing for spectators.

“It was testing conditions for the athletes. The safety committee did a great job in getting races going and giving athletes a chance to compete,” O’Garey said.

Next on the radar for the Tassie Masters and Juniors athletes will be the Aussies at North Kirra in Queensland from 21-26 March 2026.
