Surf Life Saving Tasmania's largest-ever team of lifesavers has supported the delivery of a safe and incident-free Dark Mofo Nude Solstice Swim, as participants took to the Derwent River in the early hours of this morning.

This year's swim saw 64 Surf Life Savers from across Tasmania and interstate come together to provide water safety for the event, with seven of the team travelling from across Australia to be part of the occasion.

Volunteers provided a comprehensive water safety operation, including three IRBs, 30 rescue boards, lifesavers in the water and on the beach, safety officers, a support team, and  participant briefing team.

Ned Reardon, Senior Coordinator – Lifesaving Services, said the morning was a standout for the lifesaving community.

"The atmosphere was incredible this morning, and our lifesavers were proud to help keep participants safe in the water. It was great to see so many Tasmanians and visitors to our state get out and enjoy a fresh dip in the Derwent as the sun came up."

The 2026 event marked another chapter in SLST's ongoing partnership with DarkLab, with the organisation once again playing a central role in bringing one of Tasmania's most iconic festival events to life safely.

"We love being involved in such a well-run Tasmanian event, and we thank DarkLab for involving Surf Life Saving Tasmania again this year. With 64 lifesavers from across Tasmania and interstate supporting water safety, it was a fantastic example of our lifesaving community coming together," Reardon said.
