Surf Life Saving Tasmania is seeking volunteer lifesavers to support one of Hobart’s most iconic winter events, the Dark Mofo Nude Solstice Swim, returning to Long Beach, Sandy Bay on Monday 22 June 2026.

With more than 3,000 participants expected to take part in the sunrise swim, a strong and experienced water safety team will play a vital role in ensuring the event runs safely and smoothly. Volunteers will be required to arrive at the Southern HQ facility at Long Beach by 6:15am, with the event typically concluding around 8:00am. Additional event logistics and operational details will be shared with the confirmed team closer to the date.

Volunteers will also receive a range of benefits, including a complimentary VIP ticket to the City of Hobart Winter Feast, offering free entry and express access, along with coffee or a hot drink and a light breakfast following the event. Each volunteer will also receive a Surf Rescue branded beanie, and Surf Life Saving Tasmania will provide a $50 donation to each volunteer’s nominated Club in recognition of their contribution. Limited accommodation will also be available for members travelling from outside the area, with allocations confirmed prior to the event.

Surf Life Saving Tasmania is aiming to recruit approximately 50 volunteers for the morning. To be eligible, volunteers must be a current financial member of a Surf Life Saving Club, be aged 18 years or over, and hold a current Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate.

In addition to water safety roles, there are also opportunities for a small number of volunteers to assist with event logistics on the morning. Members who are interested in supporting in this capacity are encouraged to reach out to SLST directly.
