Overview

This research study, “Understanding Water Safety in Tasmania: Participation, Risk, and Prevention” (Project ID: 48977), is led by Dr Bernadette Matthews and the research team at Monash University and Life Saving Victoria, with support from Surf Life Saving Tasmania.

Aims of the study

The study aims to understand swimming and water safety knowledge, behaviours, and program delivery in Tasmania, and explore opportunities to improve interagency collaboration.

What participation involves

Primary option: Attend a focus group lasting up to 1 hour to share your perspectives on water safety program gaps, alignment, and opportunities for collaboration. The focus group sessions will take place in Hobart, Launceston, Burnie and Devonport.

Alternative option: If you are unable to attend a focus group, you may complete an online survey (approximately 30 minutes) covering the same topics or alternatively participate in an online 1-on-1 interview via Microsoft Teams with a researcher to discuss the topics (up to 30 minutes).

Target participants:

  • Adults (18+ years) who work for agencies involved in water safety or aquatics in Tasmania.
