Carlton Park Surf Life Saving Club was crowned Club of the Year at the 2025 Awards of Excellence, capping off a milestone season that celebrated 50 years of service to its community.
With more than 400 members, including 166 Nippers and 105 patrolling lifesavers, Carlton Park SLSC contributed nearly 3,000 volunteer hours to patrols, water safety, training and community initiatives this season. The club also continued its commitment to inclusivity, welcoming groups such as Lifesavers with Pride and Disabled Surfers Association of Tasmania to share their beaches and facilities..
Club President Dean Harris said the recognition is a proud moment for the whole club.
“Being recognised at the 2025 AOE is an honour for Carlton Park SLSC. It validates the tireless efforts of our volunteers, the strength of our community and the legacy of 50 years of service. For our members, it’s a moment of immense pride and a celebration of shared achievement.”
The highlight of the year was undoubtedly Carlton Park’s 50th anniversary celebrations, which brought together past and present members for a weekend of reflection and festivities. From a fashion parade through the decades to historical interviews, a gathering of life members and the launch of The Spirit of the Seahorse book, the celebrations showcase the club’s rich history and resilience.
The club also led the way in implementing new child safety requirements for Nippers, becoming a standout example of compliance and best practice across all Tasmanian sports.
Harris said what truly sets Carlton Park apart is its people.
“We pride ourselves on being an open and welcoming club that is focused on giving the very best experience to our members - from Nippers and their parents to seniors, competitors and patrolling members. Ultimately, we have also proven ourselves to be a very resilient club. Our members are always there for each other.”
As the 2025/26 season approaches, Carlton Park is preparing for another packed calendar of events, including Surf Safari, CP Surf Fest, the Masters State Titles and Senior State Titles. The club will also focus on strengthening youth retention pathways, developing opportunities across lifesaving, administration, training and surf sports.
Additionally, plans are underway to secure funding for changeroom upgrades, ensuring the facilities are accessible, child-safe and ready for the club’s future growth.
“This season, we have a new Executive team in place, so we are looking forward to delivering another successful year ahead. It’s going to be another huge year for CP!” Harris said.
