Tasmania Earns Four Medals Across The 2025 Shaw And Partners Coolangatta Gold Weekend

Friday 31 October 2025

Tasmania was well represented at the 2025 Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold, with 21 athletes and three officials from five Surf Life Saving Tasmania clubs making the journey to the Gold Coast for one of the most iconic endurance events on the surf sports calendar.

Athletes from Bridport, Burnie, Bicheno, Carlton Park and Clifton Beach took on the challenge across a range of events, showcasing the strength, determination and team spirit of Tasmania’s surf lifesaving community.

Tasmanian athletes delivered some impressive results, with several podium finishes across their age categories. Carlton Park’s Anna Sargent claimed first place in the 50–59 Age Group of the 26.2km Coolangatta Gold event, backing up her gold medal in the same category at the 2024 event.

Clubmate Jayde Richardson earned two medals across the weekend including second in the 30–39 Age Group for the Coolangatta Gold 26.2 and went one better in the Coolangatta Dash, winning her age category.

Bridport’s Annie Howard secured third in the Under 17 age group in the Coolangatta Dash.

Mick Howard from Bridport SLSC attended as one of the Gear Stewards and Logistics volunteers at the event. He said with the new format of the event, it was exciting to be a part of it.

“The event was a new format this year with a great atmosphere and challenging conditions, the soft sand running was very tough on the athletes. It was great to see our Tassie athletes compete alongside the elites on the same course at the same time.”

The collective effort from all Tasmanian competitors highlighted the growing depth and enthusiasm for endurance surf sports in the state, with clubs working together to support each other both in preparation and on event day.

With plenty of young Tassie athletes competing on the Gold Coast, Howard said the experience will be a pivotal moment for their upcoming season.

“Training for this endurance event is a hard slog for our Tassie athletes with cold mornings and short winter days. It was fantastic to see our Tassie athletes mixing it with the best in the country in their age groups and both the racing experience and their fitness has seen strong results in the Bicheno Endurance event and will pay dividends in the upcoming carnival season,” he said.

Surf Life Saving Tasmania extends its thanks to Strait Link and Bonney Energy for their continued support, and to Clifton Beach Surf Life Saving Club for the use of their trailer, which helped make the team’s participation possible.
