Carlton Park Surf Life Saving Club’s Anna Sargent will look to add another Coolangatta Gold title to her name when she leads a strong contingent of Tasmanian athletes at The 2025 Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold this weekend. 

Sargent, who took home the 2025 Masters Athlete of the Year award at the Surf Life Saving Tasmania’s Awards of Excellence, won her age category at the 2024 Coolangatta Gold and is in prime form to take home the gold in the Women’s 50-59 age category on Saturday. Her fellow club teammate, Jayde Richardson, will also make a strong case to medal in the 30-39 age group. 

The 2025 Coolangatta Gold will have four key events with Tasmanian athletes competing in three races including the Coolangatta Gold 25.6, Coolangatta Sprint and the Coolangatta Youth Challenge.

Carlton Park Surf Life Saving Club’s Shayne ‘Juppy’ Jupp is taking part in his seventh Coolangatta Gold and is looking forward to the new format of this year’s event.

“It’s supposed to be a delicious day. After 21 weeks of winter training, it’d be nice for some reward for a long winter. For me, being here and being in the warm water, that’s enough of a reward. The team is looking really ready.” 

For Jupp, the Coolangatta Gold is the event he always pencils in on his calendar.

“It’s definitely my number one event. It keeps me motivated through winter and it’s a really great pre-season event for the kids as well. It’s also really special to be standing on the line with your idols and the elite athletes in our sport - it’s quite a rare opportunity,” he said.

The Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold 25.6 will be broadcast live and free on the Seven Network’s digital streaming platform, 7plus Sport, on Saturday 18 October at 11:30am AEDT.
