The Dark Mofo Winter Solstice Swim was incident-free for 2025 as close to 3,000 participants took to the icy water in Hobart.
It was the 11th year of the iconic nude swim where people from across Tasmania and Australia come together for the final event of the festival.
Surf Life Saving Tasmania had 48 Surf Life Savers providing water safety for the morning swim.
Our volunteers provided risk management and safety advice, briefed participants, set the flares off to mark the start of the event and provided water safety from the beach, on boards and in IRBs.
Ned Reardon, Senior Coordinator for Lifesaving Services, was in attendance at this year’s event. He said with 48 Surf Life Savers, it was the largest team to date.
"The 11th annual Nude Solstice Swim was a huge success. With the most participants we've ever seen at this event, it was a great success with no incidents reported,” he said.
Despite the icy temperatures, both volunteers and swimmers were more than happy to be there.
“The vibe was electric from start to finish, with volunteers in great spirits and the crowd full of energy despite the icy water. It's always a special event, and this year was no exception,” Reardon said.
The event also served as a great fundraiser, with each volunteer having $50 returned to their club from SLST as a thank you for their support.
SLST looks forward to being a part of the iconic Dark Mofo event in 2026.
