Located on the north coast, Port Sorell Surf Life Saving Club continues to go strength-to-strength after their most successful season.

Coming up to her fifth year with the club, President Laura Dixon is proud of the club’s growth and sense of community. “We are currently sitting at 220 members with almost half being juniors,” she said.

It was a busy summer period for the club both on and off the water. They were a part of three large summer community markets with multiple food vendors, stalls, and live entertainment. On the water, it was just as busy for the club.

“We had a statewide Nipper Carnival and several other events so it was hectic! Patrols went without a hitch and we welcomed three new patrol captains to our team this summer,” Dixon said.

Among the standouts for the last 12 months, Dixon highlighted the summer markets as well as the increasingly popular Silver Salties Program which is gaining momentum and seeing improved engagement with the older community and the surf club.

“Our Salties events have ranged from guided beach and bush walks to kayaking adventures in the Rubicon to beach camp-style exercise classes,” Dixon said.

After the summer period, there is still plenty of work being done at the Port Sorell SLSC during the off-season. From club house extensions to upgrading facilities, there’s lots to look forward to as we get closer to the new season.

“The upgrades will greatly improve the standard of our facilities and is an exciting new chapter in PSSLSC's story. We also plan to continue holding our summer markets whilst also looking at new ways to bring our community to the beach,” Dixon said.

For those considering getting involved with the club for the next season, Dixon said they are always on the lookout for new volunteers.
