Carlton Park hosts final statewide carnivals of the season

Tuesday 11 February 2025

The last round of the Statewide Junior and Senior Surf Sports Carnival series is to be held at Carlton Park Surf Life Saving Club this weekend on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 February.

Over 500 junior and senior lifesavers from around the state are set to test their skills both in the surf and on the beach.

Racing will commence at 8:30am Saturday with the state’s juniors hitting the beach for a series of sprints and long runs. Action will then move to the water, where they will test their skills, including the popular board rescue event.

The Sunday program for Senior athletes will see them ‘race ready’ at 8:00am again starting with beach events. Mid-morning the athletes will shift their focus to the water with individual and team swim, board, ski and surf boat events.

If Carlton Beach continues its consistent history of providing testing surf conditions, it is sure to see enthusiastic support from spectators and athletes alike.

Host club Carlton Park is currently celebrating its 50 th anniversary and will have a large team wanting to put on a strong showing to mark the occasion. Southern rivals Clifton Beach and traditional powerhouse from the Northwest coast, Burnie, are set to have strong teams in both the senior and juniors ranks. Surf sports athletes from Penguin, Ulverstone and Port Sorell will also provide tough competition across all age groups, and field strong entries for team events.

Speaking of the event, carnival official and Carlton Park SLSC Life Member Craig Mackinnon said, “With a proud surf sports history, Carlton Park is excited to be the venue for this event in the club’s 50th year. There is no better opportunity to showcase the ‘rescue ready’ confidence that surf lifesaving provides to its members.”
