10 U17 athletes and 10 Open athletes have been selected for the 2025-26 Tasmanian State Team who will represent the state at the Open and Youth Interstate Championships and the Super Surf Teams League (SSTL).

The events are being held in Sydney, NSW from 9-11 January 2026. 

These events provide our Tasmanian surf sport athletes with the honour of competing under the ‘Tassie Cap’ at Interstates and competing for the Tassie Sea Dragons during the SSTL.

State Team Manager, Shane Askew said the selection process is never easy but they aim to have the right balance in the team.

“The selection committee sit down and look at last season's results including the Aussies, then we look at the offseason events and get a gauge at who has been working and finally we see how the athletes go at the selection event. As the team numbers are small we try to get a good balance with the athlete and their preferred events.”

With 13 debutants in the team looking to make an impact, Askew hopes the opportunity creates a vision for younger athletes to aspire to and continue to grow in their surf sports journey. 

“These events give great exposure to our athletes competing against the best of the best from other states. Every event is a learning experience and the athletes get to showcase their skills and abilities. The athletes will also be able to watch the professional Iron Series which will race straight after the State teams league finishes.
