The Tasmanian Surf Sports season is underway with the start of the SLST Endurance Series over the weekend after the Diamond Dash was hosted by Bicheno SLSC.
The new event saw board, ski and surf boats race a variety of distances starting at Waubs Beach, circling around Diamond Island, and crossing Waubs Bay to the Gulch.
Participants made their way through the scenic Gulch, south around Muirs Rock, and then back north to Waubs Beach via the Gulch.
First back on the 11km ski was Richard McKinn who finished almost two minutes clear of Warwick Lovell (Clifton Beach) and James Fullarton (Clifton Beach).
SLST Athlete of the Year Cate Clingeleffer (Clifton Beach) took out the Open Female Ski by eight seconds from Bronte Van der Ploeg (Burnie) and Elsie Menzie (Burnie).
Tremendous commitment was shown by all the juniors who took part in the Board Races.
In the 4km Board, Ryan Stolp (Carlton Park) finished ahead of Kahawai Benson (Clifton Beach) and Archie Munday (Burnie) in the male event, with Isabella Airey (Burnie) taking out the female race ahead of Taleah McKenna (Penguin) and Annie Howard (Bridport).
Burnie's RRisk crew were fastest of the surf boats, finishing ahead of Burnie Bumblebees, Cruisers and Clifton Royals.
The Somerset Surf Enduro is next stop on the SLST Endurance Series and takes place on Saturday 5 October.
Registrations are open now and will close Friday 4 October 2024, 4pm AEST.
