Surf Life Saving Tasmania’s 2024 Awards of Excellence will be held Saturday 17 August at the Paranaple Convention Centre, Devonport.

The annual awards ceremony recognises the hard work, selflessness and enthusiasm of SLST members across a range of categories including lifesaving services, community education, marine rescue, training, surf sport competition, coaching and officiating.

SLST members were nominated by their peers across 22 categories including Club of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Surf Lifesaver of the Year.

2023 Westpac Surf Lifesaver of the Year, Tiarna West from Penguin SLSC, said the atmosphere of the ceremony was supportive and encouraging for members to attend.

“I was genuinely surprised to win Lifesaver of the Year, being nominated by Penguin SLSC and representing them that night was already an honour,” said West.

“Receiving the award for volunteering in something I am passionate about was a humbling experience and something I am grateful for.

“I was extremely nervous and excited leading up to the award ceremony, knowing I would have to be on stage at some point during the night. Once my category was announced, I relaxed and really enjoyed the award ceremony.

“The atmosphere was great, and it was wonderful to see my friends being recognised for their passion and commitment to the organisation.”
