Surf Life Saving Tasmania members are invited to undertake their Silver Patrol Captain Course. This course aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to confidently manage a beach and a patrol as a Surf Life Saving Patrol Captain.
Silver Patrol Captain Course Facilitator, Bridget Fasnacht is a past participant of the course and has worked to accredit many SLST members with their award.
“The new Silver Medallion Patrol Captain (SMPC) Award has been developed and released to help better prepare Club Patrol Captains of the future,” said Fasnacht.
“Members in Tasmania should consider completing this course to enhance their leadership skills, advance their lifesaving techniques and protocol procedures and to understand how to manage critical incident situations. “
The course can offer SLST Members many benefits including increased confidence, professional development and networking opportunities.
“The biggest component of this course that every participant walks away talking about is the practical scenario day which involves participants practising their skills in a patrol team setting,” said Fasnacht.
“With real-life actors and lifesaving equipment all being part of the process, the feedback has been incredible, with members saying they are being prepared so well being able to use their skills instead of just doing a test!”
For those members considering taking part in the course, Fasnacht has the following advice.
“Don’t compare this course with previous patrol captain courses! It is interactive, provides flexible learning opportunities and has been heavily-modernised to meet the current best practices.
“Be prepared to use your skills and network with members from around the state. Don’t be shy about the practical component scenarios.
The facilitators of the course foster a positive learning environment and will often encourage mentoring opportunities to ensure everyone is supported so they can complete the course competently.”
Registrations for the Silver Patrol Captain Course close Wednesday 21 August at 9.00am. For more information please visit here.
