2020 Tasmania Senior Surf Life Saving Championships - CANCELLED
Saturday 14 March 2020
We wish to advise that the 2020 Tasmania Senior Surf Life Saving Championships, to be held on 21-22 March in Burnie, have been cancelled.
The SLST Board, Surf Sports Executive and SLST Staff have been closely monitoring the Government’s advice and response to COVID-19. This decision has been made in line with the Federal Government’s recent decisions around how we can assist contain COVID-19, SLSA’s advice and increasing cases in Tasmania. The Burnie SLSC have advised and informed of the Boards decision.
The health and well-being of our members and their extended families is an absolute priority, and as such, bringing together our members for a large event would not be appropriate at this time.
We have made the decision today, as we want to give our members as much notice as possible to make alternative arrangements, noting that entry fees will not be applicable or invoiced for this event. We share the disappointment this news brings for our members, and we apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused.
SLST will issue guidance to clubs regarding upcoming club events, patrols and first-responder protocols following the State Emergency Management Committee meeting on Monday morning and understanding SLST’s role in ensuring the safety of our members, their extended families and supporting the containment of COVID-19.
This information is changing rapidly, we will continue to monitor and keep our members informed of any changes. We remind members to follow the advice from SLSA on safety and SLSA Bulletin as we know currently with COVID-19 in relation to club events and gatherings this weekend.
This information will be communicated via social media and ask clubs to please also communicate through their channels to members.
