Collectively Surf Life Saving Tasmania and affiliated clubs, volunteer marine rescue units and flood and swift water teams provide inland, inshore and coastal search and rescue services around Tasmania.

In Tasmania marine rescue volunteers play an important role in providing a support service to Tasmanian Police for marine search and rescue responses for persons and vessels in distress at sea within state controlled waters.
