2025 TasPorts Leadership Scholarship Program - Now Open

The 2025 round of the TasPorts Leadership scholarship program is NOW OPEN!

This program provides funding for members and clubs to undertake development opportunities or innovative activities that will strengthen the capabilities and leadership of our surf life saving members and community.

For 2025, in addition to individual member submissions, we are expanding the opportunity to include Club/Unit applications, to support even more opportunities for shared learning, innovation, and building skills across the SLST community.

TasPorts Partnership

Through the generous support of TasPorts, a total of $5,000 per year is available for the scholarship program for 3 years to December 2025. Individuals and Clubs/Units can apply for up to $2,000 to support development activities.

TasPorts is proud to support initiatives that improve marine safety in Tasmania and ensure the safety of waterways where we operate. TasPorts acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of services like Surf Life Saving Tasmania that provide essential emergency support and leade training, education, and community awareness programs.

Examples of eligible activities:

The scholarship supports a broad range of professional development or innovative activities, including  (but not limited to):

  • Attendance at relevant workshops, conferences, or forums
  • Participation in coaching or training development programs
  • Study visits, or mentoring programs
  • Development and delivery of customised training or learning initiatives
  • Club-led training or customised leadership initiatives

Who is eligible?

  • Individual members of affiliated clubs/units with at least two years of service
  • Affiliated clubs/units seeking to develop leadership and capability among their members.

How much funding is available?

The scholarship program total funding is $5,000 per round. Support is capped at $2,000 per application.

What is the aim of the program?

TasPorts is a proud supporter of initiatives that improve marine safety in Tasmania and ensure the safety of the waters where we operate. The scholarship aims to build a stronger and more capable surf life saving community. It will support a range of professional development activities and/or innovations that enhance the skills, knowledge and capabilities of members within their roles across our SLST community.

What activities will be supported?

The scholarship program will provide financial assistance towards costs associated with professional development opportunities like training courses, workshops, conferences or other relevant programs.  This might include course fees, travel, accommodation or related expenses.

How will recipients be selected?

A selection panel will be appointed to assess the applications based on:

  • Demonstrated commitment to SLST
  • Potential for the activity to build leadership, skills and knowledge
  • Feasibility and value of the proposed activity
  • Potential to share learning and benefit the wider SLST community

What do I need to include in my application?

Applicants must submit:

  • A statement of involvement in surf lifesaving and reasons for applying
  • A description of the activity and how it will enhance leadership, knowledge, or skills
  • Any benefit of the activity to the wider SLST community
  • A budget for how the scholarship funds will be used
  • A letter of endorsement from the club/unit

Note: Scholarships are only available for future activities; not reimbursement of past costs.
