Time and again we have attempted to tame the elements. Time and again the lesson remains: respect the sea.
Since Surf Life Saving’s beginnings in the early 20th Century, thousands have learned this lesson the hard way. Today we are working to make that lesson easier. Our vision 'Safer Tasmanian Beaches' is achieved as much through education as through surf lifesaving services.
SLST offers a wide range of education and training, from first aid to basic surf rescue to workplace training and assessment. SLST provides nationally recognised training to its members, industry and the general public, and licensed to deliver vocational education and training (VET) services throughout Tasmania. SLST operate through Recognised Training Organisation Lifesaving Victoria (RTOid: 21799) regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Our non-accredited Surf Safety Education programs include the Beach to Bush program which is an outreach to young school-age children. It is just one of our programs that aims to teach children about safety in the water. We reach over 10,000 school children through education programs each year. By catching them early, we are equipping them for a lifetime of awareness, safety and enjoyment at the beach. SLST deliver a range of other community and schools programs for all ages.
