From Saturday 18th May to Friday 24th May Surf Life Saving Tasmania hosted a Flood / Swift Water Rescue Week around Southern Tasmania. Bringing together key note speakers, instructors and candidates from around the globe for a week of learning with our volunteer emergency response team members to gain qualifications and experience in the swift water area.
Sessions included practical on-water session at Ralphs Bay Canal at Lauderdale, Denison Canal at Dunalley, River Plenty at New Norfolk and Cluny Dam at Ouse. With an Incident Management Training session taking place at the Tasmanian Police Academy and culminating in a Disaster Response Symposium on Friday 24th March at the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management.
The symposium was attended by representatives from multiple emergency response organisations including: SLSA, SLST, SLSQ, SLSNSW, LSV, Tasmanian Police, Tasmanian Fire Service, Tas State Emergency Service, Emergency Management Victoria, Queensland Fire, SLS New Zealand and SLS Great Britain.
