State Election Commitment Update

As you would be aware Surf Life Saving is an apolitical organisation and when going into any election seeks at least bipartisan support and funding commitments. As members of the organisation, we are providing you with a summary of the 2 major parties commitments to Surf Life Saving Tasmania and its affiliates below as a high-level overview. Surf Life Saving Tasmania would like to thank both major parties for their ongoing support assisting us to save lives, create great Australians and build healthy and safe communities.

Liberal Party
The Liberal funding commitment:

  • Funding for VMR (see attached);
    • Providing $100,000 per year for the first 2 years then $120,000 per year for the second 2 years.
    • Providing $350,000 over 4 years for a vessel replacement program.
  • Providing $440,000 per year for the first 2 years then $450,000 per year for the second 2 years for SLST to continue to operate and deliver programs for members and the community.

Labor
The Labor funding commitment:

  • Recurrent funding of $400,000 over 4 years for SLST to continue to operate and deliver programs for members and the community
  • Flood rescue funding ($150,000 per year over 4 years)
  • A $1 million capital improvement fund for vital life saving equipment
  • $150,000 for a trial of drone-technology to help save lives

It is important to be aware that we will not know the final funding information until we receive the deeds and KPI’s, post the outcome of the election and begin working with the incoming government.

Good luck to all competing clubs and members at the Junior State Championships this weekend.
