HLTFA301B Apply First Aid

Details

This course aims to develop the, skills and knowledge for a person to provide first aid in an emergency situation. This course aims to provide the first aider with attitude, knowledge and skill required to effectively deal with a range of first aid situations.

The course provides participants with knowledge, practical experience and assessment on: OH&S legislation, documentation, hazard identification, legal liabilities, anatomy and physiology, as well as management and treatment for a range of injuries and illnesses.

Duration

The course is made up of a nominal 16 contact hours with reading and practice activities set for out of class activities. This time frame includes both a theory and practical assessment component.

Training

The trainer will cover the elements and criteria contained in HLTFA301B Apply first aid. The delivery will be in a variety of forms to cater for all learning styles including; lectures, discussion and work group activities, practical demonstrations, opportunities for practice, completion of workbooks and associated activities contained within it.

Assessment

The assessor will be looking for evidence of competence against the elements and performance criteria contained in HLTFA301B Apply first aid.

Evidence of competency will collected from a number of assesssment elements to demonstrate consistency of performance over a period of time, in a range of contexts and on multiple occasions involving a combination of direct, indirect and supplementary forms of evidence.

Assessment will, therefore be based on the satisfactory completion of the following three assessment tasks:

Assessment One: Theory Paper

A theory paper includes multiple choice, short and long answer questions and assesses the underpinning knowledge components of the HLTFA301B Apply first aid units.

Assessment Two: Resuscitation Scenario

This scenario will focus on DRABC and CPR skills.

Assessment Three: Casualty Scenario & Practical Demonstrations

This is a more complex simulation involving the identification of hazards, injuries and contributing factors and the management of the situation.

Assessment Four: Workbook

In conjunction with the assessment one the workbook assesses underpinning knowledge components of the HLTFA301B Apply first aid units.

If there are any concerns about the assessment activities please talk to the instructor. All aspects of assessment are open to appeal or reassessment if necessary.

Cost: $160.00 (All transactions are processed in AUD)

Validity:

This First Aid qualification is valid for 3 years. It is a recommendation of the Australian Resuscitation Council that the CPR component is updated every 12 months
