Tasmania’s coastline is a natural icon and very much a part of our island lifestyle. Enjoyed by thousands every year, our coast facilitates enjoyment and benefit through a variety of recreational and leisure pursuits. Sadly, many people with mobility difficulties are excluded from engaging in this fantastic lifestyle with their families, friends and carers. The enjoyment and benefits of breaking down this barrier are tangible and achievable.

Surf Life Saving Tasmania is developing and implementing a number of measures with a number of stakeholders to open Tasmania’s coastal lifestyle, its beaches, for all to enjoy and benefit safely from. Surf Life Saving Tasmania has trialled a pilot program to great success out of Devonport SLSC and would like to expand this, including the provision of access ways and promotion of beaches ideal for recreation

Through a partnership with Tasmanians with Disabilities accessibility has been made easier.  Tasmanians with Disabilities were successful receiving funding from the Tasmanian Community Fund Grant to purchase 4 all terrain beach wheelchairs and have generously made these available to Surf Life Saving Tasmania to use at a number of assessed beaches around the state.  These chairs will be available for use with 2 located in the south and 2 in the north of the state.  Final locations will be advised soon.  To arrange use or bookings please contact SLST on 6222 6556 during business ours or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
