Surf Life Saving Tasmania saves lives in the water through proactive education, risk management, prevention and rescue services

Our mission is to 'Save Lives in the Water'. We do this by:

  • Minimising risk around Tasmania's coastline by co-ordinating the efficient operation of proactive beach patrol services, and rescue services
  • Facilitating and encouraging youth development, education, training, health and safety of surf lifesavers and the community.
  • Providing a range of services and events to engage broader member and community involvement in surf lifesaving and the beach.
  • Working with all levels of government and industry partners to facilitate safer and healthier communities
  • Promoting best practice in coastal risk management through working with government and industry

Today, Surf Life Saving Tasmania has over 3500 members providing lifesaving services for the community. We are a 'Can Do' organisation that prides itself on helping to make Tasmania a better and safer place to live or visit. Services that Surf Life Saving Tasmania provide include:

  • 10 Surf Life Saving Clubs providing volunteer patrol services on weekends during DEC-MAR
  • The Clarence City Council Lifeguard Service providing weekday patrolling services at Clifton Beach during the summer school holiday period
  • The Telstra Beach to Bush program that provides surf awareness and education opportunities to every Grade 1 and 2 student in Tasmania
  • Surf awareness and education programs for primary and secondary schools
  • CoastSafe Services, providing internationally recognised coastal risk management
  • Rescue Water Craft (jet-skis) for surf rescue operations in the south east
  • Off-shore rescue units
  • Community training in surf awareness, first aid and CPR
  • Joint initiatives with Marine and Safety Tasmania promoting safer boating and PWC use
  • Working with Tasmanian Government to provide safer access for people with disabilities and mobility issues

How you can be involved...

Junior Surf Lifesavers- future Lifesaver's learning surf skills and beach fun for 5 to 13 year olds through our Surf Education program.

Active Surf Lifesaver- Surf Lifesavers are provided with nationally recognised training in aquatic rescue, first aid, and management that prepare them to save lvies - whether on the beach, at home, or in the workplace. 

Associate- encompassing all members who are not active or qualified Surf Lifesaver's but play a valuable role in any Club
