What is the purpose of the High Performance ? SLST developed the Tasmanian High Performance program to ensure that our elite athletes, coaches, management and officials have access to national coaches, training programs and events to ensure that Tasmanians attain the best possible results. The purpose is not to compete against club coaching and other programs but to support and complement the activities undertaken by club and regional coaches and advisers.
AimThe aim is to raise the overall standard and depth of competition within Tasmania. Objectives
DevelopmentSurf Life Saving Tasmania provides development opportunities for its members in the areas of sport development, as well as personal development and leadership. Selection criteria by Tier Tier 3 –The elite 8 to 12 athletes who have achieved individual Australian semi final or better. Results at other nationally recognized events will also be taken into account. Selectors ensure mix of gender, age and discipline to ensure the longevity of the program. Selecting to make up the numbers is not considered. T3 athletes must make themselves available for Interstate Championships and other representative teams but does not ensure automatic selection. Financial assistance may be available in lieu of attendance at Queensland camp to attend approved training and competition events. Subject to Surf Sports Budget.
Tier 2 – shadow group to Tier 3 with the goal and capability of moving to Tier 3 within the next 1 to 3 years. Consistently achieving top three placing within the state in their chosen field. Interstate Championship or Southern States aspiration. Expected to participate in East Coast HP camp and other clinics. Selectors ensure an even spread of age, gender and disciplines.
Tier 1- Entry level into HP program. Targeting younger athletes but usually not younger than 14. Focus will be on pool competition for development. Consistently achieving top three placing in state competition
Surf Life Saving developed the National High Performance program to ensure that our elite athletes, coaches, management and officials have access to the best sporting programs available to ensure that we remain the number one ranked lifesaving nation. Australia recently reclaimed it's number one world ranking at the World Lifesaving Championships (Rescue 2010) in Egypt, with strong results in the pool and on the beach seeing Australia finish ahead of New Zealand and Germany. The National High Performance program assists our elite athletes by funding them to represent Australia at international competitions around the world.
