Rocket Science Sports Ocean Swim Series

Tasmanian Ocean Swim Series

Well what a fantastic end to the Rocket Science Sports Tasmanian Ocean Swim Series.

Four international competitors including the fastest woman over 100m butterfly, Dana Grant (nee Vollmer), husband Andy, Erica Dagg and Japanese Olympic aspirant Inada Naiko took part in the final race of the series at Carlton Park.

The more than “generous” two kilometer swim was held in ideal conditions with just a slight tide at the eastern end of the course.

The first race was the one kilometer race was won by local, Tom Gauden, for the second consecutive year and club mate, Brianna Huxley taking out the women’s race.

What a cracker of a race the two km race turned out to be.

As expected the locals with a bit of home town knowledge were quick off the mark with Ray Winstanley, Jordan Russell-Green and Bobby Byrne taking the early lead.

It did not take USA nationally ranked 1500m swimmer, Andy Grant, long to pick up the pace with Dana deciding freestyle was a better option than butterfly over the 2 k’s

Boy what a finish. Just 11 seconds separating the first 4 swimmers with Ray just a few seconds further back. The first across the line was Andy followed by Dana, Jordy and Bobby.

Allie decided to conserve her energy for the carnival the next day by wash riding me the whole journey except on the buoy turns where she got aggressive. Amanda and Costan had their own little battle a bit further back.

What a delightful group of swimmers and thanks to Shane Gould and Milt for providing us with the opportunity to share a little bit of Tassie ocean swimming with them. We will be watching out for you all at the Olympics

Rocket Science Sports Tasmanian Ocean Swim Series winners were: Ray Winstanley, Allie Britton, Jordan Russell-Green, Lily Czesek, Alex Branch, Penny Lucas, Don Marsh and Amanda Duggan.

Thanks to Rocket Science Sports for their generous sponsorship (remember 10% off for Tas ocean swimmers) and Hive Swim Wear for supporting the events.

Swims coming up include a community swim at Kingston Beach on March 6th and The Devil of a Swim at Bicheno on March 25th
