He was an examiner from 1939 and became registrar of the Tasmanian Board of Examiners from 1948 until his retirement.
He was awarded Ulverstone Life Membership in 1952, Tasmanian Life Membership in 1954 and Surf Life Saving Australia Life Membership in 1958.
Darkie passed away October 21, 1989.
In his honour we present the Premier Club Award.
The Premier Club Award is awarded to the best lifesaving club in Tasmania each year.
Clubs are assessed on their ability to carry out the aims of SLST in providing lifesaving services to the public of Tasmania. To this end the award is calculated on issues that directly affect a club’s ability to offer excellence in its patrolling services.
